WE NEED £5000 TO CONTINUE HELPING WHILE REDRESS SCHEMES CATCH UP

15/8/2026

The trustees of the Horizon Scandal Fund are deeply grateful to everyone who has supported our work over the past few years. We have been touched and astonished by your generosity which seen thousands of you donate nearly a quarter of a million pounds. It is an astonishing sum, and we have used it to make a real difference to hundreds of peoples’ lives. 98% of those funds has now been distributed directly to applicants (you can read some examples of what we have done here). Thank you.

As to be expected though, donations have dwindled and our funds for ongoing commitments are becoming stretched. We need your help.
DONATE NOW HERE
We always envisaged the Horizon Scandal Fund as a stop-gap. We have been here to help while Subpostmasters and their families fought for compensation through the ever-changing and ever-multiplying schemes run by the Post Office and the Government.

Thankfully, the number of new applications has dropped. We hope this reflects the number of settlements being made. However, we are still assisting several victims, primarily with counselling. We really want to be able to continue funding their treatment for the next few months.

A good number of those we are helping are family members, not the Subpostmasters themselves. This group has often fallen through the gaps in the schemes and have been ineligible for any kind of redress. We are pleased to see that registration is now open for a Government scheme aimed at providing some redress for family members directly affected by the scandal. However, cases will not start to be considered until the Autumn, and it seems unlikely any awards will be made this year.

Those we are supporting need help now.  Counselling programmes only really work if there are regular, sustainable sessions and treatment. Stop now and the progress made may have been lost.

While we wait for the DBT scheme to crank into operation we estimate we need another £5,000 to fund our commitments in 2026. Any donation is welcome, however small, and will make a difference now. Almost every penny donated goes to those we support. Since the Horizon Scandal Fund was founded in 2021, we have raised and distributed nearly £250,000 to applicants. We are all volunteers and our only costs are strictly necessary admin fees, bank charges and accountancy.

You can donate online here either using the secure portal or by donating directly into our bank account - details of how to do so are on the page. When you donate, please do ensure we can claim GiftAid by ticking the box in the online form or emailing us after making a direct donation. It means we can claim an additional 25%. This turns a £10 donation into £12.50 , which makes a huge difference.

Thank you once again. We really value your support.

Yours

David, Helen, Nick, Nic, Sandra, El and Varchas
