The stuttering progress of the compensation schemes for Subpostmasters was laid bare yesterday at a parliamentary select committee.
The Business and Trade Committee heard that there are at least 2700 people still waiting for full and final redress and that several hundred of those cases would be difficult to resolve before the end of the year. At the current rate of progress it will take six and a half years. The committee also heard from Paul Patterson, head of Fujitsu in Europe, who stated that the company has no intention of making any contribution to the compensation pot until Sir Wyn Williams publishes his final inquiry report. Which means the help for family members that Fujitsu has promised is a way off too. We are still helping many of the individuals stuck in the process. In the last month alone we have helped a family of five move from a single room to their own home in time for Christmas, paid for a condemned boiler to be replaced and agreed ongoing essential counselling for several subpostmasters and their family members. All of which means we need to keep leaning on the generosity of our donors to allow us to carry on with this work in 2026. Nearly every penny we receive goes directly to applicants. We are all volunteers and we keep our overheads to the absolute minimum: software subscriptions, accountancy and regulatory fees. We have received £247,000 in donations over the past four years and have made grants totalling £218,000 to Subpostmasters and their families. The remainder is available for current and future grant applications. But we can only do this with your continuing support. Any sum, however small, is gratefully received. And if you cannot afford to donate, please share this message with anyone you think may be able to help. Donate online here Comments are closed.
